Yesterday I told you about Emily, the supply chain manager who kept her passion for music off her LinkedIn because she felt it was "irrelevant."
After we rewrote completely her profile, she applied to a music company she'd been following for years. It was a label managing distribution for independent artists.
The first interview came after 2 months. The offer followed soon after.
For 2 months, she had worked intentionally on her messaging, her networking, and her visibility. She had taken everything to the next level. And then one day, it happened: the kind of email you open with a big smile. An interview request.
The hiring manager opened with:
“Hi Emily, I came across your profile and thought you might be interested in one of our recent openings.”
That conversation clearly wasn’t just about skills.
Yes, they talked about distribution challenges. But they also talked about what it means to be an artist waiting for royalties. About delayed shipments to record stores.
Emily told me afterward:
“They kept saying ‘you get it.’ Not just the operations, but the why behind what we’d be doing. It was the first interview in years where I wasn’t performing.”
2 more interviews followed with different operations managers.
Then, just before Christmas last year, she received the offer.
The hiring manager was very clear:
“Most supply chain people can’t talk to artists. Most people in music don’t understand operations. What stood out is how you bridge both.”

You stand out only if you decide to
Emily didn't get hired despite mentioning music. She got hired because of it.
It signaled she wasn't just another supply chain manager - she was someone who could bring genuine understanding to their specific challenges.
Your CV proves you can do the job. Your LinkedIn shows you're someone worth talking to. someone who brings more than just skills.
Now, your turn!
